It's been a while since my last video, so I decided to give you an update on what's going on! Since my last vid I've moved from IL to NY and I have started grad school classes. I do like the program, but it has kept me very busy!
I finished the power supply for the ruby laser, and in this vid I fire up the lamp trigger. I'm a big fan of electrophoresis power supplies, because they provide a cheap and programmable source of high voltage DC! They can be had on eBay for as low as $50 (but DON"T buy one if you aren't experienced with electricity. One wrong move and you're dead on the floor.) What's left for me is to mount the lamp/ruby and then build the optical resonator.
The electroplating setup did not work as well as I'd have liked, but once I get some polishing tools I'll see if I can make it bright.
I threw in a little clip of a LaserDock that Wicked Lasers sent me recently. I have to say I am pretty impressed with it so far! You'll see a review before long
The carnivorous plants are a change, but I've enjoyed getting back into it again! I kept a ton of plants as a kid, and I even own a cactus that I've had since I was 8. The big pitcher plant was a Nepenthes "miranda", and then there were some sundews (drosera) american pitcher plants (sarracenia) and venus flytraps (dionaea) thrown in there.
Unfortunately I won't be breeding any lepidoptera for a while as I'm in a city apartment now. :( I still have a couple moth videos left to edit and post BTW, and I'll get back into it again eventually.
